1) DELL PASSES IBM IN NT SERVERS
2) RECENT SHORT NEWS TAKES: SECURE OUTLOOK!
3) HOW ACTIVE DIRECTORY WILL CHANGE OUR LIFE
4) EXCELLENT IP ADDRESSING EXPLANATION
5) THE NT STOCK WATCH: NASDAQ IS ROCKETING UP!
---------------------------------------------------------------
1) DELL PASSES IBM IN NT SERVERS
Yesterday the Wall Street Journal reported that DELL now has a
25% percent market share in Servers and has bypassed IBM in this
segment. Morgan Stanley Dean Witter reiterated its outperform
rating on DELL COMPUTER a day after DELL reported earnings in
line with Wall Street expectations. The reiteration comes amid
other mostly positive comments from other Wall Street firms.
Market opportunities are still huge for Dell although the
environment is still uncertain, Morgan Stanley said Dell still
is the best PC-maker and likes the company long-term.

2) RECENT SHORT NEWS TAKES: SECURE OUTLOOK!
If you need to move from one part of the country to another
you could be unpleasantly surprised by the cost of living at
your new place of work. This site has an engine that calculates
the cost of living and compares it with other regions. It's
very accurate I'm told. http://www.money.com

The recent Bubbleboy virus makes it all the more important to check
that the SECURITY settings on your Outlook clients are set RIGHT!
Russ from the NTBUGTRAQ list created a little webpage that gives
you the exact settings to make Outlook as tight as can be. You
should check this page out. A tool like STAT reports on this too.
I'm quoting Russ here:
"You'll find an explanation of what each version (Outlook Express,
Outlook 98, and Outlook 2000) does to/with content, in each of
the various viewing windows (Open, Preview Pane, or AutoPreview).
It does make it clear that there's no way to know that a message
contains malicious (or potentially malicious) code prior to opening
it. Security Zones are your only protection with these clients".

If you want to check out multiple Operating Systems on your PC,
you should have a look at the VMware product. It allows you to
run more than one OS at the same time on your PC and you do not
need to reboot or repartition. It runs Linux, Win3X, W95/98, NT
and Win2K. http://www.vmware.com

The SP6 PORTS issue also affects Exchange X.400 connectors. Bob
Potter was testing a solution for a client on NT 4 Enterprise SP6
and Exchange 5.5 SP3 and X.400 connectors. They would get those
low level socket errors. If they used a site connector it all
worked perfectly. Then they added the exchange services ID to
the Domain Admin groups and everything was fine again. It's a
nasty workaround, and we hope they come up with a fix very soon.

The World's Number One NT FAQ is worth checking out on a regular
basis. Especially the What's New page that John Savill updates
daily. Have a look, it may save you a LOT of time. Here goes:

3) HOW ACTIVE DIRECTORY WILL CHANGE OUR LIFE
I found this on the MS Website. It's actually very readable and
explains AD in a good way. Active Directory consolidates the
management of directories in one place and saves you hours of work.

4) EXCELLENT IP ADDRESSING EXPLANATION
If you are studying for your MCSE, or simply need to know how
the IP addressing system works, check out this write-up. It's
very well done and covers the whole area. The different Classes
and Subnets are clearly described and illustrated. ADD THIS TO
YOUR FAVORITES! http://www.3com.com/nsc/501302.html

5) 'THE NT STOCK WATCH'
Have a look at these spectacular gains this week. It does not get
much better than this. The NASDAQ is rocketing up!
