A Way To Escape AV Contract Lock-In

This week we announced a competitive upgrade program to VIPRE Enterprise. It's pretty aggressive. The program provides new VIPRE licenses at renewal matches and is being offered in an effort to help you solve the current problems with existing endpoint security solutions, which include bloat, high resource usage, and difficult or poor agent management and deployment. By eliminating the up-front costs of a new license purchase, we ease the frustration of being locked into an existing contract. More in the Press Release below. Gartner: No IT Recession

Well known analyst Gartner stated that worldwide IT spending will be up 8% this year to a whopping $3.4 trillion. Keep in mind that if you take out the US dollar fluctuations the number gets more like 4.5%. They also predicted services will be up 9.4% and software up 10%.

Gartner wizards also said that open source software, SaaS, the new 'cloud computing' and Web 2.0 are creating massive change to the software market. These changes are influencing growth patters of several markets as organizations replace obsolete systems with per-use services.

Spending on hardware is also to be up 7%, mainly due to sales of laptops and revenues in Europe and Asia-Pac.

Letters People Send Us

Just take 30 seconds and read what your system admin colleagues have to say, and mind you these are unsolicited.

"First off, let me commend Sunbelt for making an incredibly fast client- side scanning engine. The perceived on-access performance gain over McAfee VirusScan is definitely noticeable -- even without examining any hard benchmarks (which you've sent)."

"We have been removing Symantec's Endpoint antivirus/antispyware software from our medical sites and replacing it with VIPRE. VIPRE performs faster and with less CPU overhead than the aforementioned. In places where we were using CounterSpy and Symantec's Corporate antivirus we have replaced those two products with guess what? VIPRE. We have recently had looping problems with RTVSCAN, Symantec's service program. I have always been a fan of Symantec until recently. I think you have them beat, Man!"

Sunbelt realizes that as a system / security administrator, you have better things to do than to put out fires and listen to end users complain about slow computers. VIPRE Enterprise was built for the administrator that is sick and tired of old-style antivirus programs that have bolted on module after module and now are peddling bloatware as a security solution. Try VIPRE Enterprise for 30 days:

Quotes of the Week Are From 'When Insults Had Class'

The exchange between Churchill & Lady Astor: She said, 'If you were my husband I'd give you poison,' and he said, 'If you were my wife, I'd drink it.'

'I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.' -- Mark Twain

'I've just learned about his illness. Let's hope it's nothing trivial.' -- Irvin S. Cobb

Why Organizations Don't Implement Enterprise Instant Messaging

Osterman Research just wrapped up a major study of the instant messaging, real-time communications and presence market. The goal of this study is to understand how real-time communications technologies, such as instant messaging and Web conferencing, are used by mid-sized and North American organizations. They asked organizations that have not deployed enterprise instant messaging as a pilot or in production why they have not done so. The most commonly cited reason is that no one has yet made a sufficiently strong business case for enterprise instant messaging - nearly one-half of decision makers indicated this as a reason for not yet deploying the technology. Should You Upgrade To SQL Server 2005 Or SQL Server 2008?

Even though SQL Server 2005 was released almost three years ago, many organizations haven't upgraded yet. With the recent release of SQL Server 2008, it's time to put some serious thought into an upgrade. This tip examines both options and considers licensing costs, database size, benefits of the new features and confidence - or lack thereof - in the newest version. (Registration Required)

Microsoft To Buy $100M in Novell SUSE Linux

Redmond two years ago agreed to buy and resell $240 million worth of enterprise support subscriptions for Novell Inc.'s SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating system, will buy and resell up to another $100 million of vouchers. The unusual scenario in which the world's dominant proprietary software vendor is helping to market open-source software such as Linux began in November 2006, when the two former foes agreed to a set of pioneering cross-licensing and interoperability deals, with Microsoft admitting that many of its business customers were also fans of open-source software. Time To Kill Those PST Files!

You all are aware of the fact that PST files are a major contributor to loss of time, especially on the admin side of email. Importing these PST files in a searchable archive, which is a central and transparent repository for all users, can save enormous amounts of time for all email users and the admin alike. PST files cause -all- kinds of storage problems, like bloated and slow backups and backup windows rapidly expanding so that they run into the next morning. They also cause risks in the legal and security areas like lost email, laptops that disappear, and no oversight which is a lawyer's nightmare. You should really check out Sunbelt Exchange Archiver. It solves all these problems in one fell swoop:
