Don't Get Caught with Your Compliance Down

Know that feeling when you realize you forgot to do something really important? That's how you'll feel when your company is involved in legal proceedings, and you overlook something during the e-discovery. The consequences could be devastating. Judges are not amused with lost or destroyed evidence, and your organization could be fined millions of dollars. Worse, you could lose a court case that could otherwise be won. Avoid such a scenario with SEA. Sunbelt Exchange Archiver is affordable archiving for SME's. Ask for your quote here:

Tech Briefing

The iPad Was Invented 38 Years Ago

I'm not kidding. Legendary Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) Alan Kay described his "Dynabook" that has an uncanny resemblance to the iPad. I drove down to Best Buy and played with it for about 15 minutes. I liked it but was not blown away. Apple gets credit for good execution, but not for originality.

Kay came up in 1972 with a high-res tablet PC, having global information connectivity, able to play games, secure payment capability, large storage and quite a few other iPad matching specs. And quite astounding, he got the price right in an era where PC's did not even really exist! Perhaps he also could have predicted the biggest iPad complaint: "weak Wifi" :-) Here's the blog describing it:

iPad Apps For The System Admin

So what options are there for admins who want to be able to read an e-book, check some email, and maybe do some work on the device? Turns out that several developers think the same way, and there are iPad-based administration apps available right now. Paul Venezia at InfoWorld tells you about iSSH so you can run the VNC client, Desktop Connect which will connect to Windows systems with RDP, and about iStat. Now, if we could just get an app that would automatically fix Microsoft Exchange problems...

A writer for the tech blog GeekSmack posted screenshots of the installation process and his experience with the download, describing the installation process as "much faster than the install process for service packs on Vista."

Trapped In An Tech Career Box?

Tied to J2EE? Ruby? .Net? Without diversification, you could force yourself into difficult job choices down the line. This article in InfoWorld started with: "Dear Bob ... I like what I do (software development) but do not like the environment I work in. I have been passed over when it comes to new projects or significant enhancements on an existing project.". A good read:

System Admin VIPRE Feedback

"You're the man Jimmy! Thanks for the assistance with VIPRE Enterprise. I have to tell you this VIPRE has to be the best anti-virus software I have ever utilized, hands down. When I tell it to abort a scan it does it immediately. When I click to open the interface, guess what, it opens immediately. The resources that it DOESN'T use it also a very big plus. I am just blown away at how easy and manageable VIPRE Enterprise is, two thumbs up. Thanks!" K. B. - System Administrator.
