    The Unknown Server: MultiPoint 2011

If you run in-house labs, training centers and/or public kiosk stations, there is good news. Windows MultiPoint server is a great solution for situations like that, apart from its intended audience which are schools. It's a server flavor that is virtually unknown, but actually quite useful.

The production version of this server should be available by April, but you can can try the Release Candidate right now. In short, what this puppy allows you to do is provide a VDI session for as many as 20 connections through a single PC. Each user only needs a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse. There is much more about it at the Redmond Site: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/multipoint/2011.aspx

Stuxnet Attack More Effective Than Bombs

While failing to say who developed the attack, the New York Times reports a joint Israeli-U.S. team tested Stuxnet's impact on Iran's uranium enrichment efforts. At a classified installation in Israel, an operational mock-up of Iran's nuclear program helped Israeli and U.S. military design ways to sabotage the Islamic nation's ambitions to build a bomb, according to a report in the New York Times. Cubicle Wars: Best And Worst Office Setups For Tech Workers

Consider the modern office layout: Open floor plan, lots of common space flooded with natural light, clusters of "pods" with low partitions (or none), all designed to encourage teamwork, boost productivity and -- management hopes -- improve the bottom line. That type of office layout looks great on the company's Web site, and most likely the creative team loves it, but does IT? After all, many high-tech employees prefer to work in solitude, or at least in an environment quiet enough to foster intense concentration for significant chunks of time. Are these trendy open office layouts torture to the techie brain?:

    VIPRE Business Success Story

We received this email: "Please forward this note to the management of your development and support teams. I have been using Sunbelt VIPRE and its prior products for year. I've always liked the products and about 3 years ago, I displaced all other enterprise protection software I had with Sunbelt VIPRE.

I just completed an upgrade from VIPRE 3 to 4. It is probably the easiest and best product upgrade I've ever done. I started slowly and did a few test systems. I moved a few more desktops and servers every few days. I could have easily completed the entire upgrade in one session.

The new user interface is dramatically improved. I once referred to the Sunbelt management interface to another vendor as an example of how they could improve their product. Version 4 has taken it to another level.

The install/upgrade process was so clear and so simple that I kept waiting for something (bad) to occur, but it did not. Sunbelt made an investment here that must have saved a huge amount in installation support costs.

And finally, the primary reason I moved to Sunbelt in the first place is that it is almost invisible in terms of the system resources that it consumes to perform the protection tasks. Great job and thanks.
