Editor's Corner

This week's newsletter is about Canada's favorite animal, the MOOSE:

Just kidding! Actually our newsletter this week covers Microsoft Office 365, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, and Exchange Online. In other words, M(icrosoft) O(ffice) O(neDrive) S (harePoint) E(xchange). We're lumping all these Microsoft online services together because they're often utilized together by many organizations. But even if your business only uses one or two of these services, you'll probably find something useful in what we've dropped on you below ;-)

Let's begin with some tips on administering Office 365.

Office 365

John Naguib has a post on the Wiki Ninjas blog that provides a helpful overview of the new security features included in Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection (ATP):

Next, on the deployment end of things if you previously installed Office 365 ProPlus using a custom XML file that includes excluded components, you may have struggled afterwards to add additional components your users need. This post on the Microsoft UK Platforms blog should help:

And finally Jose Rodrigues has posted an helpful walkthrough on the Microsoft Services Secure Infrastructure Team Blog explaining how to manage Office 365 client updates by using the Software Update management workflow of System Center Configuration Manager:

Exchange Online

Moving on to some recent developments with Exchange Online, here's an important announcement on You Had Me At EHOL about how Microsoft is retiring Unified Messaging (UM) in Exchange Online and replacing it with Cloud Voicemail and Auto Attendant services:

The Exchange Team at Microsoft also has published a helpful blog post on how they've been working hard behind the scenes to improve the public folder migration experience for Exchange Online:

Finally, this informative post from the Exchange Team explains in detail how to use the Exchange Audit Log to understand the activity of users (or attackers masquerading as users) in an organization:

Now let's look at some tips for those who use OneDrive for Business.

OneDrive for Business

This short tip from Chris We on his Wondering Mind blog describes the Shared by Me view and how it can be quite useful for users of OneDrive for Business:

And this tip by Jose Barreto though from a while back can be very useful if you ever need to restore OneDrive files and folders to a previous point in time:

Are you concerned about OneDrive security? Then be sure to check out this tip by Matt Soseman on how you can audit attempts to view or download files stored on OneDrive:

SharePoint Online

And finally, the only thing that caught our attention regarding SharePoint Online this week is this new blog post by Bill Baer that explains the latest improvements Microsoft has made to their SharePoint Migration Tool:

If we've missed any Moose droppings you think are important, feel free to email them to us at [email protected] and we'll cover them in our next issue of WServerNews. Thanks!

Authentication issues with latest version of Chrome

I've been informed by a colleague that a number of administrators have reported various authentication issues after upgrading their users to version 72 of the Chrome web browser. Examples include logon problems when using cosign SSO and authentication failures for sites still using SHA-1 certificates. Apparently the problem is related to the fact that Google changed their company name from Google Inc to Google LLC. For example in California they changed their certificate information from:

This change was apparently unannounced, and it can cause various problems including failure of AppLocker rules configured to use this information.

Last week's factoid and question  was this:

Fact: Playing chess in school may help kids increase your attention span.

Question: How many of our WServerNews subscribers like to play chess?

We received three responses to this question and all of them were similar in tone to this one from Hank who is a sysadmin in Texas, USA:

Chess? Is that like Call of Duty Black Ops?

Now let's move on to this week's factoid:

Fact: Pogonotrophy is the act of cultivating, or growing and grooming, a mustache, beard, sideburns or other facial hair.

Question: How many of our IT pro readers are trying to grow a beard? And why? Think it'll make you look less like a nerd?
