Now let's move on to the main topic of this newsletter which is to shine our spotlight on SharePoint 2019 which was recently released by Microsoft. For this purpose I recently interviewed Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Dux Raymond Sy the CMO at AvePoint to share some his thoughts which you'll find below. Plus we have all the other usual stuff you've come to expect and enjoy in our weekly newsletter.

Cheers,

Interview with Dux Raymond Sy

MITCH: What is your role at AvePoint?

DUX: I am the CMO at AvePoint with over 20 years experience in sales, marketing and technology innovation. I've successfully driven business transformation initiatives for commercial, educational and public sector organizations worldwide. A sought after trusted advisor, I'm the author of SharePoint for Project Management. I'm a Project Management Professional (PMP), a Microsoft regional director (RD) and Microsoft most valuable professional (MVP) and have authored whitepapers, industry articles and delivered interactive presentations to over 10,000 people in major industry events worldwide. As a highly creative, passionate and chock-full of energy industry influencer, I'm constantly hacking the status quo and ensuring strong outcomes.

MITCH: What is new and exciting in SharePoint 2019? What else is new and improved in SharePoint 2019 that excites you personally?

DUX: I am personally excited about the new modern communication and collaboration capabilities -- Team News and Communication Sites -- as employees in today's modern workplace expect their collaboration tools to have the most up-to-date features. These communication sites will be places to share news, showcase stories or broadcast messages to other people. Users will be able to easily create communication sites for themselves from SharePoint Home without needing to contact IT -- furthering their collaboration efforts and streamlining their efforts.

MITCH: Most enterprise deployments of SharePoint still seem to be stuck in the realm of hybrid cloud even though cloud services companies are pressing businesses and organizations of all sizes to take the plunge and go "all in" on the cloud. Do you think hybrid SharePoint may be here to stay?

DUX: Hybrid SharePoint is here to stay for the foreseeable future. Some organizations are hanging onto hybrid because they're comfortable with some workloads being moved to SharePoint Online while some workloads remain on-prem for compliance, regulatory or internal policy reasons. These are the organizations that want one foot in the cloud and one foot on-prem and aren't ready to go all-in with the cloud just yet. Because Microsoft recognizes the needs of these organizations and wants to support those who require an on-prem solution, SharePoint Server 2019 makes having a hybrid solution more seamless than ever before. For example, the search function will be improved in SharePoint Server 2019, with real-time search results as users type their query, and results are grouped for easier navigation.

MITCH: What's new in SharePoint 2019 in the area of Office 365 integration that you've heard customers are getting excited about?

DUX: The expanded customization available in SharePoint Server 2019 is what we've heard customers get the most excited about in terms of improved integrations. For instance, the latest version of SharePoint provides enhanced integration with Office 365, if productivity tools like Word or PowerPoint are workloads that has already been moved to the cloud. The new platform can also integrate with PowerApps and Flow, so creating custom workflows and adding new solutions to the environment is easier than ever. Flow and PowerApps empowers end users to discover and implement customizations as they need them, whereas previously they needed to submit a ticket and wait for the customization to be coded.

MITCH: Is there anything you'd like to see or see more of in SharePoint that isn't there yet or doesn't appear to be on the horizon?

Definitely deeper integration with Microsoft Azure's AI capabilities which can bring enhanced visibility and efficiency to the modern communication and collaboration experience.
